So why did they make that hockey stick chart, dumbass? Was it irrelevant or is that just the story now that its been debunked?

What most people now understand is the hide the decline issue was about the post-1960 divergence between measured temps and temps derived by proxies. Those proxies were the basis of the hockey stick chart thus a problem with them had to be hid.
