Base pulling Obama to the extreme? Obama started off slightly to the right of center and has been sprinting to the right ever since. He is now as far right as Raygun. Becoming Nixon would hardly be an extreme position. He's been responding to the right base. Had positions been reversed, Raygun wouldn't have caved on tax breaks for the rich, even if it meant tax cuts for everybody. He actually did raise taxes. Say what you will about him, he did stand up for his principles; ask the air traffic controllers.
