I made an image of the partition containing my Vista system. I stored this image file in a partition on my second internal disk. My Vista partition was 16GB, with 10GB occupied. With ToDo compression set to Normal, the .PBD file was 10.5GB! For comparison, Acronis True Image, using Normal compression, creates a 5.5GB .TIB file, and Microsoft's ImageX produces a 4.1GB .WIM file containing the same data. I didn't time how long ToDo took to do the backup. I fell asleep after my screen saver activated. It was 86% finished when I awakened. I'd guess it was roughly ten minutes. The restore operation was speedy in comparison, taking about four minutes. ToDo Backup suggests other programs be closed while it runs. I ignored this and ran TaskManager. The resources needed: 30MB RAM, 10% CPU at maximum. After restoring my Vista system, it booted and ran normally. One surprise: I received a warning/alert/notice that the system I was using, Windows 7, was running from a Virtual drive and that I should use caution when working with the volumes where my virtual drives are stored. Nice! (Traps you know about can be avoided.) Overall, the EaseUs ToDo package seemed comprehensive and easy to use. The messages kept me informed about what was happening without overloading me with detail. I think it could use some improvement with speed and compression. The price was right! Disclaimer: I did NOT experiment with mounting the image file. Nor did I try restoring to a partition other than the original. I did not try the "sector by sector" option. And I did not experiment with non-initialized disks or non-standard file systems. I did not verify the .PBD file. I did not alter the size or location of the data during the restore operation.
