The difference is that we can, when we're finally fed up with such abuses of the law, change that law (or the politicians) who make such laws..

The Chinese people have no such process.

Btw, not sure how credible this article is. The FBI has LONG had the ability to search people's garbage (dumpster diving). They did just that with Aldrich Ames many years ago. Garbage is not considered "private property" when it's placed in the container on the street.

As for Polygraphs, they can't force anyone to take one. But they can require one for certain jobs, like being a CI (confidential informant). And I believe the results of any polygraph remain inadmissible in a criminal case, unless voluntarily taken.

As for the Assessments part, that's definitely one that can generate some questions. What level of probable cause is necessary to initiate an official investigation and what will be the chain of evidence required to justify such an initiation. But this is obviously driven by the internet and data mining technology.
