Kirk, LRCX is a volatile stock as your long term chart shows. It makes for a very good trading vehicle, but not a good long term buy and hold. The buy you made in Sep 1998 was obviously excellent, but a good time to sell would have been in Mar 2000, a very nice 12 bagger or so.

It took until mid 2007 for the stock to get back to the 2000 period. Since 07 another dip has occurred, and the stock peaked out again in the 50s and is now on a downward trend again. Who knows how long it will take to get back to the 50s again, let alone continue on to higher values.
