They are the imperialist nation builders that Ron Paul always complains about. They have never seen a defense budget that needed to be cut." Pro-military expansionism is not exactly a *new* development. It's long-standing, (I can refer you to President Eisenhower's famous departing address to Congress for confirmation of the generation-spanning extent of this strain of political belief.) Re: "But the real conservatives of today are fiscally responsible...." Like I've said before... there are MANY different 'types' of 'conservatives'. Not monolithic belief sets. Question to ask (that helps tweak-out what 'kind' of 'conservative' one is talking about or dealing with) is "What are they conservative ABOUT ?" 1). Conservative about FISCAL issues? 2). Conservative about SOCIAL issues? 3). Pro-military 'adventurism', pro-foreign military spending, active projection of national power overseas, etc., or not? (Now here, *both* the 'NEO-CON-ish' and the 'Isolationmist' sides claim that THEY are the ones hewing most true to traditional 'conservative' beliefs....) 4). And, (finally, but not of least importance, IMO), is the question of how they respond to, and advocate about, issues of use of political power and dominance... how such power 'should' flow, from the 'top down' (from leaders to followers, the Authoritarian belief system), or from the 'bottom up' (the Libertarian belief system)? BOTH Authoritarians *and* Libertarians claim that THEY are the 'true conservatives' and the others are not, (same as with Neo-Cons and Isolationists.....) So, like I always say... LOTS of ways to 'slice' (define) what is and what isn't 'conservative'.
