Well, Yes AND No, LB..... We NOW know the US Government sold its citizens down the river....the Congress demanded that people turn over their money to the government in lieu of being tossed in jail for non compliance. Most of us for years, believed the Government really did have that "lock box" that most of the Congress and various Adms tossed around so freely.

But they didn't do anything wise. The Government took the money and spent it on something other than was intended.

I'm sure you know about compounding of interest and money....(none now, nor was there much in the Great Depression) but the figures are averages over the years.....This article below is just yet another example of what could, and should have happened to all the Social Security and Medicare funds that were paid in.....But again, Congress spent it, so the money couldn't and didn't compound.

So is it the citizen who was held up by the IRS at fault? They paid the money owed. Graft and the Government took it and spent it for votes.
