Declaring victory over inflation, as though it's some monster which came out of a nearby forest to attack, is false thinking: <Chinese premier Wen Jiabao has declared victory over domestic inflation > Governments declaring victory over inflation is like alcoholics declaring victory over the bottle, but they'll just have a few sips as necessary.

It's really themselves that they are fighting. If they don't even know who the battle is with, then they really have no show of winning.

Perhaps there is a government which has "beaten inflation" for more than five minutes. I have never heard of it, just as I have never heard of government which has beaten taxation. Robbing people holding money by diluting them in self-dealing money printing is always too tempting. They dress the robbery up with the idea that avoiding deflation is economically essential, but it's not. If prices go down, people like that. Especially people who have earned and saved some money.
