Boehner: Debt increase can't pass with tax hikes

The top Republican in Congress is ruling out any tax increases as part of a budget bargain required to pass an increase in the government's ability to borrow through the GOP-controlled House. House Speaker John Boehner says any measure that mixes tax hikes with the increase in the debt limit would be impossible to pass. The Ohio Republican has been thrust into the spotlight after his top lieutenant, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, abruptly pulled out of talks led by Vice President Joe Biden. Boehner says it'll take more leadership from President Barack Obama to get the debt measure enacted. The alternative is a first-ever U.S. default on its obligations. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

Obama is getting stupider by the day with even refusing to make any commitment on issues like gay marriage etc. let alone on the deficit. He will surely pay some price for voting "present" on issues that he needs to take the lead as President.

However, worse still is the Republican party. They are fractious and under this scenario we have the possibility of the rise of another Bush-like candidate Michelle Bachman. And this fractious fight in the GOP is manifesting itself in the party acting stupidly in the debt reduction talks such as this one:
