I know this may be hard for you to believe but some women want to wear the burka.

Yes indeed, some women also were led to believe that it was honorable to jump on the lit pyre. If you asked that "ready to jump" woman she would certainly have said that she was proud to do so and that she was "doing so out of her own free will." That is what I consider balloney. The fact of the matter is that the social pressure is so high that they are lead to believe that "it is a pride to wear the burkha."

The burkha is a social issue, not a religious issue. It signifies the suppression of the woman by man.

That's right. Most people in American society perceive it as a negative. Are you suggesting the burka be outlawed?

I agree the burka is a social issue. All the Muslim women I've spoken with agree that it is not the Koran. It is b.s. really, but once you break down the force coming from male authority around it, women can choice what makes them comfortable.

On the issue in India: I was watching something on old China the other day, back when a ruler died and dozens and hundreds of family and associates would then kill themselves or be killed to "go with him", it seems, at least according to this account that changed after years of such bloody battles between rival groups that populations were getting depleted, they couldn't afford to lose the people. :)
