NCR Announces Availability of New WorldMark 4380 Server

New Server to Support Enterprise Windows NT Applications, Electronic Commerce and Data
Warehousing

DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1997-- NCR Corp. today announced general availability of the NCR
WorldMark 4380 server, an eight-processor Pentium Pro-based system designed to build on NCR's industry lead in
large-scale Windows NT solutions.

''We are very excited by NCR's introduction of the WorldMark 4380. This 8-way server demonstrates the power of the
Pentium Pro Processor and NCR's OctaSCALE architecture to meet the needs of demanding enterprise environments,'' said
John Miner, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Server Group, Intel Corp [Nasdaq:INTC - news]. ''This
innovation demonstrates the scalability of enterprise systems based on Intel and is evidence of NCR's leadership, execution and
enterprise computing roots.''

NCR developed the server around an innovative design, called OctaSCALE, which links together two four-processor Intel
boards to create a high performance eight-processor server. NCR expects the new symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) system
to drive the Microsoft Windows NT network operating system further into enterprise environments and specifically targets
three market segments:

--Enterprise Class NT Applications - An ideal large-scale enterprise host for electronic commerce and messaging solutions or
applications such as SAP's R/3 suite. In a data warehouse environment, the WorldMark 4380 functions as a departmental data
mart server.

--Server Consolidation - Business applications running on multiple smaller NT servers can be consolidated on the WorldMark
4380 to streamline operations and save costs.

--Fat Server Environments - With its high capacity and performance, the server can be used to support organizations
implementing fat server/thin client architectures.

''For customers with applications that require a powerful NT server, especially for data warehousing or electronic commerce,
the NCR WorldMark 4380 delivers unmatched scalability, reliability and performance,'' said Mark Hurd, vice president of
Marketing for NCR's Computer Systems Group. ''The server is also ideally suited for smaller environments since users can
start with a two or four processor system and, using NCR's OctaSCALE technology, add two or four more processors as a
field upgrade at a later date.''

Server Consolidation with SMP Utilization Manager

An NCR developed software product called SMP Utilization Manager will be used with the WorldMark 4380 to address the
need for server consolidation in growing Windows NT installations. Many users now have environments where single, dual, and
quad processor Windows NT servers have been deployed to support a variety of applications, including communications
gateways, email and Internet servers. Systems in such environments are not easy to maintain and can place a strain on
administrators who are trying to maximize uptime for their user organization.

NCR's SMP Utilization Manager software was created to maximize the efficient use of servers and provide an easy way for
applications that are spread across several smaller systems to migrate to a larger server. SMP Utilization Manager allows a
system administrator to bind one or more NT processes or applications to a set of one or more system processors. It comes as
a standard part of the NCR WorldMark 4380 configuration.

ValuePlus CD for BackOffice

Every WorldMark server with Windows NT now comes with ValuePlus CD, a software bundle including SMP Utilization
Manager; Server Manager, to enable proactive preventative server maintenance; Remote Services, for remote online system
administration; Netscape Navigator Gold and Fastrack Server, to provide a complete solution for creating and managing web
sites; NetVault, to allow backup for an unlimited number of users' data to centralized storage; and PowerMon, to notify system
administrators of impending power supply related problems.

WorldMark 4380 System

Pricing for a base configuration begins at $17,900 and ranges to $60,000 for a fully configured WorldMark 4380
eight-processor system. The NCR WorldMark 4380 server is based on 200 MHz Pentium Pro processors with 512 KB or
1MB cache per CPU. The four-processor boards are connected with NCR's unique OctaSCALE technology that eliminates
the system overhead of an interconnect.

The WorldMark 4380 supports a maximum of 8GB of ECC memory, up to 108 GB storage, 10 LAN and 20 WAN
connections, 15 PCI slots, 3 EISA slots, and Ultra fast/wide dual and quad channel PCI SCSI controllers. The system has
redundant power supplies and fans along with an internal UPS and full power fail recovery capability. The server supports hot
pluggable disks and power supplies, and is certified with NCR's LifeKeeper and TOP END high availability software to further
maximize uptime.

Worldwide Services

NCR backs the performance of the WorldMark 4380 server with one of the largest and most experienced global service
networks in the world. The company's Worldwide Services Group employs 20,000 service professionals at 1,100 locations. A
full range of NT and UNIX consulting services are available through the organization. NCR is one of only three worldwide
Microsoft Authorized Support Centers and can provide operating system evaluation, porting assistance, network planning and
design, systems integration, project management and other professional services.

RE:" For a company with poor process control, such as AMD"

Let's be fair to AMD. They do basically the same wafer sort as INTC.
They didn't stay in business this long by packaging bad die.
