LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1997--AuraVision Corporation today announced a single PC Card solution enabling OEMs and aftermarket suppliers to offer DVD video playback in notebook PCs. The company's EZ-DVD PC Card reference design--incorporating AuraVision's new VxP295 zoomed-video controller and C-Cube's ZiVA DVD decoder--provides optimal, full-motion (30 frames per second) DVD playback on DVD-ROM drive-equipped notebooks. The reference design includes extensive software drivers and applications, providing compatibility with most leading notebooks.

AuraVision's EZ-DVD reference platform for DVD on the notebook, among others, is being demonstrated throughout the week at COMDEX in AuraVision's suite at the Riviera hotel, suite Royale 9.

AuraVision's design leverages the 30-frames per second DVD playback capabilities of AuraVision's VxP295 controller by utilizing the zoomed-video (ZV) port designed into the newest notebook computers. The ZV port is a dedicated, 16-bit bus that allows DVD video data to be sent from the PC Card directly to the notebook's display controller.

"AuraVision's EZ-DVD reference design, utilizing our new VxP295 chip, offers both notebook OEMs and aftermarket suppliers a cost-effective, quality DVD playback solution for their customers," said Chris Day, AuraVision's director of marketing. "Our design avoids the risks of putting dedicated hardware inside the notebook, such as additional cost and weight, while allowing for additional features such as SPD/IF and TV-out to be added easily."

"Products based on AuraVision's EZ-DVD reference design will offer users uncompromised video quality with the added convenience of utilizing a PC Card," said Clint Chao, director of PC products, C - Cube Microsystems. "This hardware-based playback solution helps solve the power problems associated with software-only solutions on notebook computers and delivers unmatched performance."

AuraVision's EZ-DVD reference design is available immediately for notebook OEMs and aftermarket manufacturers and is priced at $1,500. Software source code and applications are also available under license from AuraVision.

AuraVision Corporation designs and markets high-density integrated circuits and software that enable the capture, management, processing and display of full-motion video in personal computers. The company also provides complete reference designs to enable customers to bring reliable, quality products to market quickly and efficiently. Second generation media processor features 2D and 3D graphics, DVD playback

and high-end audio

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- A cost-effective single-chip solution for complete multimedia was showcased today by LG Semicon with its Mpact 2/6000 media processor (GM9OC771). Together with Mpact Mediaware and a PC's existing x86 or x86 MMX CPU, Mpact 2/6000 delivers: DVD playback, high- performance 2D and 3D graphics acceleration, MPEG1 and MPEG 2 video, wave table audio, fax/modem, telephony and videoconferencing.

The Mpact 2 is the next generation Mpact solution for multimedia, offering 125 MHz clock frequency and 3D graphics performance of about 40 million pixels/second -- six times the capacity of the Mpact 1/3000. It can process 6 billion operations per second (BOPS) and is suited for PC motherboards or as an add-in card. Consistent with the Mpact commitment to flexibility and affordability, future functional upgrades can be completed through software changes not costly hardware reconfiguration.

DVD features of Mpact 2/6000 include: full-screen 30 frames/second MPEG 2 decoding, de-interlacing, 720x480 native resolution playback, Chromabright(TM) and Chromadjust(TM), SRS TruSurround(TM) and AV Sync(TM) and in-house Dolby testing.

3D advantages include a dedicated 35-state rendering pipeline, a 500 MFLOPS set-up engine and 1.2GB/second memory bandwidth.

"Today's only one-chip solution in multimedia is the Mpact 2," said Duke Koo, Sr. Managing Director of International Sales & Trade Affairs at LG Semicon. "Mpact's cost-effectiveness will be true today and tomorrow, since more multimedia functionality can be realized by software changes alone."

The Mpact 2 media processor, architected by Chromatic Research, Inc., was co-developed by LG Semicon, Ltd. Under license from Chromatic, LG Semicon is manufacturing and selling the chip under the Mpact brand name. Chromatic provides the enabling Mpact Mediaware.

One-Stop Shopping at LG Semicon

LG Semicon is the only Mpact 2/6000 supplier who can offer customers one- stop shopping for complete Mpact-based system realization. In addition to Mpact 2/6000 silicon, the company can supply highly qualified concurrent RDRAM, GlueArt, audio and modem codecs, large screen CRT/LCDs and DVD ROM. "Our customers know us as a total solution provider who prioritizes complete customer satisfaction and after-sales support. These are characteristics we also hope to share with new Mpact 2/6000 customers," stated Koo. "Part of our service equation can also entail designing entire PCB boards with Mpact 2/6000 according to customer specifications."

Product Availability

Samples of Mpact 2/6000 are available now with full commercialization slated for 1Q 1998. LG Semicon estimates an entire bill-of-materials cost of under $100 for Mpact 2/6000, RDRAM and Mediaware. New Mpact modules for videoconferencing, home movie editing, audio and fax/modem will be available to PC OEMs and add-in card manufacturers in 1H 1998.
