It is sounding like Radium Hot Springs is a mandatory stop as well. Icefields Parkway (93) from Radium to Castle Jct. sounds outstanding.

I turned 18 in Jasper, huddled in a visqueen baggie tent in the rain.

This is a route someone suggested that looks promising:

From Nelson this is the route I recommend...Nelson, Kaslo, New Denver, Nakusp, Shelter Bay (via ferry - free) Revelstoke, Golden, Radium, Castle Junction, Lake Louise, Icefield Parkway to Jasper, and return to Banff (great road to travel both ways), then 40 south through Kananaskis, then Waterton...I've travelled all those roads many many times.
