When I did engineering long ago, we had to get 15% more than science students in the same preliminary examinations [chemistry, physics, maths] just to get into engineering and I believe it's even tougher now. Science was a soft-ball option. 50% got them into subsequent years. Engineers started at 65%.

Engineering maths carries on to such a level that engineers can design and build things like the super collider, which to some people is considered a science project.

So-called scientists like Briffa, Jones and Mann are more like stamp collectors than scientists. Their climate models are Heath Robinson affairs like
OK Go's youtube.com With lots of broken tvs to get the model to produce the required outcome and music.
