This is a democracy and that is what the social contract is all about. You are not asking the right quesiton or seeing hte big picture. How do 300 million people organize themselves that is fair to everyone better than a democracy? And in a democracy the majority rule! It is a shitty system, except for all others. Socrates allowed himself to be killed unfairly rather than break the social contract. Get it?
