>protects the individual from the majority

You really think the individual is protected from the majority? In a limited manner in the courts and in the constitution... Any democracy with a court system and a constitution limiting the power of the govt. has this. Beyond that, if the Repugs have a majority in the 2 houses plus a GOP president adn a judiciary loaded with like minded conservatives, then no individual is protected from their social conservative agenda (i.e. limiting freedom of choice).

Please don't bother Landsak with question about democracy. He is a Canadian and a subject not an American and a citizen. His little brain has not made enough conceptual integrations to come to terms with those differences. And besides he is already trying to figure with Koan how to redistribute the wealth his future spivs will seize on behalf of the tribe they claim to represent.

"If a man proposes to redistribute wealth, he means explicitly and necessarily that the wealth is his to distribute. If he proposes it in the name of the government, then the wealth belongs to the government; if in the name of society, then it belongs to society. No one, to my knowledge, did or could define a difference between that proposal and the basic principle of communism." AR
