Liberals see hate as a bad thing. You'll rarely see liberals in hate campaigns.

Repugnicans and Teapotters see hate as a good thing, a political tool to garner votes from the hateful. Most smear campaigns come from the Right. We saw that especially in the Palin campaign in '08. She took politics to an all new low (e.g. accusing Obama of "palling" around with terrorists. "Birther" campaign, etc..)

The primary reason ERW's are against hate laws, is that they fear hate campaigns be taken away from them as a tool for getting their favourites elected.
