I suppose I never explored that side of the aisle because my parents and both sets of my grandparents and great-grandparents were very conservative. Conservative values, impressions, and influences were all I knew while growing up and as a young man.

If my parents were alive today, they would be stunned at the state of the nation, but they might be able to understand how we got here if I patiently explained it to them. I think they could comprehend what went wrong.

On the other hand, if my grandparents were alive today, they would be purely shell-shocked and totally unable to comprehend our society. There is no possible way that they could have ever envisioned society as it exists in the United States today. The nation has strayed to a distant, dark realm that would be completely foreign and alien to them.

If my great-grandfathers, whom I knew well, were still alive today, they would be quickly arrested because they would attempt to take matters into their own hands in accordance with the U.S. Constitution.

I never really left them, they drifted so far to the left that they actually left me... and then I saw the light...

I feel the same way about the Republican Party today. What happened to conservative Republicans, GZ?
