Agreed... I spent a number of years studying typography and web design... the current scheme breaks almost all of the rules for easy readability.

Change to #cccc99 and I'll bet you're halfway there. I agree on the text but try that background anyway as it is the best contrast for medium to light blue. Tell me if you like that.

The link color needs to be darkened and the visited link color is OK if light. Not enough contrast between the two

Lately some new school of web designers and print media amateurs have been unleashing small and gray scale text thinking it makes for better looking pages, but they sacrifice readability.
