We’ve never been too strict in deciding whether a company qualifies as a “biotech” for entry in the Contest. As far as SNMX, here’s an article that does use “biotech” in association with the company.

SNMX develops molecules affecting human receptors (in their case, taste) based on fairly elaborate cell biology research and HTS. I don't see this as any different from the small-molecule drug developers that we routinely classify as biotech.
