There are many monetization business plans, but my guess is that between now and not too many years from now, Snurf can float an IPO even if SI is a free site. Zynga has such a model.

$25m for 25% of the company would be a home run for the current owners.

But for any stock thread on this site to be useful for investors, the time and effort to read it and post to it has to be in a sensible relation to the results obtained and obtainable.

Too many posts a day makes it less useful. So if active members grow to 10 times current active members, that could be a problem.

If the current header weeds out some people, who think appearances outweigh content, that could even be part of a good plan.

I've never seen anyone change their opinion/mind (politics) based on what someone else has posted.

I have seen (though less lately) people change their minds about investing strategies, etc. as long as the discussion stays on topic. I myself have drastically changed some of my investing strategies based on things I've learned from serious investors/traders.

But too often these days, that sort of thing is rarer, while the political bickering is on the rise.

I seriously doubt that SI can move the national political debate in any direction regardless of who is a member and frankly I don't even want to see any effort made in that (probably fruitless) attempt.

I will be quite happy to simply learn how to become a better investor and also learn about new/old companies and discuss their merits, etc. -- a much easier and more likely achievement.

Jim

"What i would like to see is a semi-private club concept, where quality, not quantity, reigns supreme. That's a club where thousands of thoughtful, open minded and mutually respectful people can advance and sculpt ideas that just might end up improving the national and international conversation.

By eliminating the dreck, many more high quality, even well known, people might come to dwell here.
"

Is this the kind of "club" you are advocating.........?
Examples of junk posts from one thread in the last 50 posts. The thread is EXACTLY like stockhouse. Most of the posts are useless.
It took me some time to post these and I'll bet anything...ANYTHING, that people don't read them all so why should I or others have to waste their day watching conversations with no content?
