So what would be a conservative in England or Canada? someone who tries to preserve their respective political system. Conservative means a resistance to change. Maintain the status quo. in the general sense, yes. but we were talking in the political sense. you and everyone following this conversation knows that. "The people demand a change, I forbid the change people want." is pretty bad also. the constitution was written to be resistant to change. it makes it more difficult for tyrants to usurp power. the constitution is protecting the very people who want to change it, because they don't truly understand the benefits of freedom. they think freedom is free. that it is easy. that no one needs to sacrifice for it. they think like rahm emanuel, that the first amendment is 'over rated'. he'd like to do away with the first amendment because he doesn't like to listen to people who are opposed to his views. he's vermin that doesn't deserve the protection that the constitution affords him. but like him, we can't take his rights away without losing our own. do you imagine that the majority out there know what's best for the minority? that would be straight out of the communist's handbook. mob rule. not well thought out, reasoned thought from a few wise men that knew how to protect everyone. the majority will always choose the easy road. the road that looks good or sounds good. not the road of freedom, which is always hard, but always as good as it is hard, if we could only see it.
