Then, he was just a debate loser who's favorite "philosopher" was Jesus. Also, the (R)'s did a great job hiding his true idiocy. Add to that Gore thinking he had it in the bag while boring us to tears, as well as a national situation so good that America thought it could take a chance on this faux cowboy.. I remember thinking "how harmful can this little sort of friendly dumb guy be, his Dad wasn't so bad?". After all thing were going great, stock market up. great jobs being created, no real wars, democracy breaking out all over, balanced budget... Gore actually seemed more dangerous to me at the time. Then came 9/11 and our response... nobody can ever accuse me of having flawless foresight.
