Bans are not to be issued on Investment Forum boards solely on the basis of a poster's investment perspective unless the board carries a "Bulls Board" or "Bears Board" designation. Within the scope of those broad guidelines, ban/unban decisions are at the moderators' discretion. Users who are unsatisfied with a moderator's use of the ban feature should look to other threads on the subject, and can also start a new thread if no suitable alternatives exist.

This is very reasonable, and is what I agree with. This is a democracy discussion forum but that need not mean 'anything goes' without censure . What it means is that people are free to start any thread they want, and post to any thread they want, but that the people who are in charge--that is, those who 'lead' the thread by virtue of having stepped up to create the thread in the first place--have the right to accept or reject posters in a reasonable fashion. It is reasonable for them to say 'I can ban a Bear if I want to' as long as they make that clear with displaying the 'Bulls Board" designation.

The bolded part above over time leads to a better quality website--where there are a lot more choices available to people. 'Anything goes' caters to the basest qualities and creates very unpleasant environments that are the opposite of what people say they want: quality information. It pretty much comes down to a quality vs quantity debate. Rules govern the quality. Without them it suffers. You don't like the rules? Stop complaining and find something more to your liking. If it isn't out there, start your own thread with your own rules. Greater choice is better for everyone.
