I agree. It is as irrational to declare that these programs are untouchable, as far as improving their effectiveness, as it is to refuse to consider tax increases. Just as it is an impossibility to rectify the economy with only spending cuts, Medicare left unchanged will also sink our economy. I have to hope that the suggestions regarding the entitlement programs will address changes that will provide a similar level of service at lower cost. This nonsense about free power chairs for the asking and the inability to negotiate with big pharma houses on behalf of Medicare recipients must be addressed. And I totally agree. They don't need to throw out the baby with the water....
