Depends on the chip.. it may not shorten the life of the chip at all.. it depends on how much excess heat is being generated.. I really don't know (because I haven't measured).. there is math to figure it out, but my logic is if you are planning on using the chip for less than 2 years, you probably won't see it die..

Update your M537 BIOS with 5370904S.bin at
w7.dj.net.tw

Also get the IDE driver VXPPRO95.exe for Win95.

The 83Mhz bus speed jumper for M537 is
1-2
1-2
2-3

If your MX could run at 66x2.5 well, it should be able to oc to 83x2. The new BIOS will identify the MX-166 @83x2 as MX-PR233.
