Why does ANY market do what markets do?

It doesn't alter the fact that without so-called "speculation", the variance in commodity prices far higher. We know that.

More importantly, without commodities, business risk is much higher, and the result is increased costs of goods and services. See: Southwest Airlines (which someone else mentioned previously).

When someone suggests getting rid of commodity trading, you immediately know you're discussing the subject with a nitwit.

Energy Secretary Chu said: "Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe." So why are you guys upset about gasoline prices being pushed up? That's an Obama policy goal.
