Conservative's often like liberal ideas (because they make sense-lol!), just not liberals (we are only 20% of the population and only 5% are very liberal like me). They dislike our liberal views on just about everything, like gay marriage or even integration and the environment, evolution, etc. The conservative southern worker partnered up with the liberal northern worker when we had (were fighting for) unions. After the 1964 civil rights act the south decided their racism was more important than their jobs. Cut off their nose to spite their face. Dirty little secret is that the Republicans winked at the south and told them: vote for us and we will not enforce integration more than we have to. The north isn't so much liberal as it is anti Republican. E.g. African americans vote democratic over 90% in every election because they know the Republican's are their enemy. Simple as that. African Americans are generally not liberal. Republican's have always been the enemy of the African American, gays, women and all minorities. <<A couple of things: 1) 1964 civl rights act lost the conservative dems in the south. Republcians played on that oen big time. Liberals lost more than the South. Most of the country reads conservative. The only reason that liberals are successful at all is because of their population bases in the cities. Its why we have a shot at the presidency every 4 years. 2) yelling tax cuts was a super duper winning strategy. Dems tried to talk about raising taxes and always lost when they did. Dems have wanted to rasie taxes and a .50 gas tax for 50 years. 3) People vote their culture not what is logical (book, what is wrong with Kansas), so they vote for conservatives even when they hold liberal ideas. Republican's know this and play on it. 4) Negative campaigning. Liberals hate to do that stuff. If you know this, the Dems must too. Why are they not effectively counteracting the moves by Rs?
