The two parties are on equal footing when it comes to experience, education, knowledge, etc.

Forgetting for a moment the stark, diametrically-opposed differences between the philosophies and worldviews of the Left and the Right, please remember that gerrymandering and affirmative action have thoroughly disqualified your assertion. Numerous Democrats are seated in Congress strictly because of the color of their skin, rather than legitimate merit or credentials. Most of them are bumbling, angry imbeciles.

You are right, they are equivalent in the areas you reference. I think it goes beyond strategies to get the country moving forward. Shumer questioned the Republican desire to get the country moving citing a bad economy improves republican election chances. Some on the right have questioned Obama's motives citing Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals which says the way to real change is to kill the economy.

Leaving out the fringes, I think there are fundamental differences in how both sides view the role of government and what the ideal society looks like. We can decide how much we should be taxed in each income bracket and how much the government spends and redistributes. That will determine what our deficit will be, what our GDP growth will be and whether it is sustainable. The problem seems to be we find it is unsustainable and so we say we need to tax more thinking that will solve the problem. It does for a short while but then the GDP drops , tax receipts go down more and it is even more unsustainable. Once things look stable and things are balanced, our leaders (both sides) decide maybe we need another program to take care of some other problem and that upsets the apple cart. We don't need another government program.

Let me also say I really appreciate your thoughtful responses. Demagoguery is everywhere and gets us no where.

My political views may be selfish, because I am good at accomplishments and making money I like to see those actions rewarded and not punished. Those that are not good at accomplishments or making money want the playing field leveled. It reminds me of the drive to not keep score in children's soccer games so there won't be any losers. To me that robs the winners of a sense of accomplishment.
