The media controversies surround Rupert Murdoch's properties in Britain have the possibility of widespread consequences in this country as well. The NYTimes has several interesting articles on it this morning, indicating it's both wider and deeper than previous versions.

1. First a story on ties between Scotland Yard, News of the World, and some investigative journalism around an axe murder. Very disturbing.

2. An indication that the Liberal Party has jumped off the boat and is adding its voice to that of Labor to force an end to Murdoch's attempt to gain control of BSkyB.

3. And David Carr, the principle Times media columnist, writes about the role of other newspapers, not the government (too close ties with Murdoch's media empire), in uncovering much of this. And in driving the political reaction.
