HP's earnings came out. 2 cents below the .77 expected. Revenue and earnings seem to be OK, only the operating expenses are high cutting into the earnings. We will find out tomorrow how this will effect the high techs in the very very short term.

On a seperate note, for those interested in speech recognition and thpse who believe that client desktop machines (e.g. PCs, NCs, Web TVs, etc.) are going to be run someday by speech recognition rather than a mouse (and less of keyboard) - sort of like how Captin Kirk and Mr. Spock and the crew use computers in Star Trek episodes - find every chance to load up the shares of Sun, IBM (working together), and Microsoft ( not neccessarily woirkingwith the other two). I have come to strongly believe that these companies are going to be spending a lot of money in R&D to develop the speech recogntion user interface for the new age of thin client computing. The Star Trek version of interfacing with Computers (desktop instruments - NCs, PCs, etc.) may happen much much much sooner than everyone would expect (perhaps as soon as 1999-2000).
