China today is pretty much the china that always were 3000 years ago and 600 years ago.

The USA today has little to do with the USA of 100 years ago, except for the railroad built by you know who :0)

It be my working theory.

Let us watch n brief.

IMO, as n when a government ceases to be afraid of the people it rules over, the ruled people are in dire straits n imminent danger.

What the universal suffrage republic system has done is to allow the people to believe that they are somehow however unlikely in charge, just because they get to chuck out one group of evil cretins and herald in another cabal of rotten morons.

People want to believe that make-belief democracy can short circuit the inevitable need for revolution even as the founding fathers warned against such unfounded n less-than-wise notions, just as folks wants to believe that central banks can short circuit booms-busts.

Many shall learn much, then fall, so that a few can rise.

Best to prepare for revolution of the old fashioned variety, a safer bet.

Details BS <huge debt
huge numbers on food stamps
huge per capita murder for a developed country
huge prison population
paralyzed government
expeditionary wars galore
apathetic populous...

At 0% interest, they don't need to care. Huge numbers on food stamps is like having pet dogs which cost some money to feed and house, but people like to have them and can afford them. Yes, high murder rate, but spread gently over decades while China [and others] do it all at once a million at a time - for the most part, the murders result in ethnic cleansing = 1 victim takes out 1 criminal [by capture and caging]. Since there are 100 good people for 1 murderer, the murderers lose on the numbers, thereby upgrading the gene pool. Huge prison population - not too expensive and keeps them off the streets but the victimless "crimes" could be ignored. No biggie. Paralyzed government? Really? Try speeding and see how paralyzed they are. Or failing to pay taxes. Or getting in the way of an aircraft carrier. Not many expeditionary wars - a couple, which act as weapon testing, live fire training. logistic practise and fine tuning, not to mention discouraging others who would prefer to NOT have such shock and awe arrive in their neighbourhood. Apatheic population - well, drinking beer is popular in most countries. Why care when there are plenty of others who are keen to be in charge of running the show? A sunny day is best spent enjoying apathy than being worked up and rioting like Greece.
