EU Governments Commit To Backstop Banks That Fail Stress (Dow
Jones)--European Union governments committed at a meeting Tuesday to
backstop banks that fail stress tests."The Council confirmed that
necessary remedial actions following results of the tests will be
taken," said a statement following the meeting of the economic bloc's 27
finance ministers.Still, private-creditor involvement is
preferred."These measures privilege private-sector solutions but also
include a solid framework for the provision of government support in
case of need, in line with state-aid rules," said the statement.The
measures come ahead the publication of the stress-test results, expected
