The Republican party is in a mess. The Independent voters, I am sure cannot wait for Nov. 2012 to roll in so that they can the Republicans the boot.

That's the first good Republican idea this year, but public negotiations are rarely honest or effective.

Then again, we haven't seen much evidence of honest negotiations so far.

Some Republican senators have pushed to have these debt-reduction talks “in the light of day,” instead of behind closed doors, so the public can see what both parties are willing to fight for.
