Ted, most of the largest newspapers endorsed John Kerry in 2004:

archives.dawn.com

Usually the endorsements split across "red state, blue state" lines, but there were plenty of "red state" publications that endorsed Kerry:

democraticunderground.com;

And there were plenty of crossovers for Bush. Kerry got the NY Times but Bush got the NY Post and NY Daily News plus the WSJ. Bush also got the Chicago Tribune. A number of major papers like the LA Times sat out the endorsement process.

This is not a liberal country and American papers reflect it.

But we don't need to look back to then.......its happening now too. The World of the News, a Murdoch paper in the UK, was closed this past Sunday over the hacking scandal. CNN has been watching how the Murdoch media operation has presented the news of the paper's closing and their treatment of the scandal. In the UK, the scandal and closing have made the front page of every Murdoch paper. In the US, of all of Murdoch's media outlets, only the WSJ si giving it front page coverage....the rest have buried in the paper......that includes the NY Post. Non Murdoch papers in the US.....it made the front page. A video clip of a group of Fox News staffers was leaked showing them trying to decide how to hide the news.

Its shows once again how the news is manipulated in this country. We did not get the truth about Iraq, and now, the Murdoch publications here are trying to hide the Murdoch scandal in the UK. Americans are uninformed and accept this kind of heavy handed treatment whereas in Europe it would not be tolerated. And the NY Daily News can get away with endorsing GW Bush in a supposedly liberal city.
