If you are buying a foreign low price/cash ratio stock, it is likely to be a PFIC. If you don't know what PFIC is, buy the stock in IRA/tax deferred account, learn and see a tax advisor. At least do two out of three. :)

I own just a little grvy in a Roth, so hadn't even thought about the tax issue. Ive never heard of a pfic before...I thought it was a plain old stock.
