Oh, I see you did get involved. Thanks. One or both of us could probably dig up more than a few links which show how wacky this approach is. But it's so obviously wrong on its face that it's hardly worth the effort.

But what this analysis misses is that it would have saved 500,000 something deaths and upmty ump maimings and amputations in a population of 22 million (?) (will fact check--enough so that it is like 7% or so of the population). And of course the fact that maybe it would have played out much more benign politically going forward once slavery was non-existent. It IS hard to project a better fate for the former slaves, but without Lincoln (presumably) being assassinated who knows?
