When Mrs Stowe met Lincoln he remarked to her, "So you're the little lady that caused this great war".

Nice find. But f you were an undergraduate history major and you used this kind of evidence for the causes of wars, the comments of politicians to their supporters, then you need to go back to school. Lincoln was just being kind. The causes of the civil war are multiple. And any serious set of explanations would need to be so.

There was an actual article recently on Stowe that advanced that very theory on the basis that it made the abstract concept of slavery concrete for so many people both in the North or South.

Good. And, most likely, true. But calling it "the" cause of the war just won't float. The abolitionist movement, the fact that the south left the union, the fact that there had been no end of long term conflicts over slavery and the extension of slavery well before Stowe's book. And so on.

As for providing sources, I didn't mean that in an academic sense. However, since you were advancing an argument that many of us would find odd, at best, it helps persuade us if you offer it as more than just your opinion.
