I think whats going on is three things. 1) mkt feels damage of techs was way overdone, esp. given lowering lt bond rates; 2) continuing process of expecting reduction/reducing 98 earnings estimates -- coss with high expectations are vulnerable; 3) right now a balance of worry/ feeling not SO bad / re East Asia, Latins.

Re the last: Japan will muddle through. To the extent people expect strong action, it will disappoint. To the extent people expect a dramatic banking meltdown, it will disappoint. Hong Kong has overpriced real estate, but otherwise in good shape, starting to come back. The potential tinderbox is S.Korea. They are teetering. Banking crises real possibility.

Mike, has HP's estimate being revised last couple weeks? The report said revenue is reduced by 5% because of currency problem, the 5% revenue is much more than 0.02/share.

Thanks
