That's a column where I agree with Krugman start to finish. We have a very sick political culture now thanks to the embrace of all this goofy BS as sacred theology.

It is indeed mass insanity from the Republicans. I think it bodes very ill for their party. Which pleases me, of course- but I hate to think of the carnage they may cause in the financial markets if they really carry through with their insanity. Oh the other hand, having a very specific party to blame for giant dips in 401ks should make the democrats pretty unassailable. So I will take the good with the bad, if the republicans decide to go over the cliff en masse.
