They don't fix them. I (and others) suspect Morales, Correa, Chavez and Castro had a hand in making Fuentes, the mayor of Puna, push this protest stuff. He has long advocated making Puna a separate state. This would not be the first time that LA leaders interfered in each other's politics. And not the first time that the Castro group has had its eyes on other LA states in this region. Castro may have funded the Shining Path, although it was never directly said so in the past. They had to get their weapons from somewhere, although their chief weapon now is politics, not violence. People honestly believe that rebels in Vz, Columbia and other countries get their money from coca -> cocaine growing and this is partly supported by Correa, Chavez and Morales. The question you have to ask" is their well known public support for leaf growing a smokescreen for supporting the nearby cocaine producers, who are rebels along their political line? Or are they looking to decriminalize it and stop the dominance of the cocaine railroad, which is the naive view. And is some money etc coming from the bad four, of Ecuador, Vz, Bolivia and Cuba. I think the latter too. Protests, the last one in Puna, with up to 5,000 people cost money. The average Peruvian has none for all this travel, and lengthy time in cities. What does the transport and two month support of 5,000 people in a city cost? More than a dollar? Do you mean to say it was self funded? They left their jobs etc? If they did not have jobs how did they afford it? North Americans would find this difficult to do and they have cheap travel and lots of roads etc. and a lot more spare cash we think. Fuentes wants a stop to all mining in Puna, and oil drilling. This is bizzaro economics. I can see more revenue from these ventures, which ordinarily all goes to Lima, their equivalent of Ottawa, and they never see the money again. I can see the pique. Is this a mutt and jeff game? EC<:-}
