All, Another announcement: NEC DESIGNS NEW MOBILEPRO 700 HANDHELD PC TO USE SANDISK'S COMPACTFLASH MEMORY CARDS LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1997--SanDisk Corp. (NASDAQ:SNDK) today announced that NEC's new MobilePro 700 handheld PC (HPC), which debuted today at the COMDEX show, is designed with a specific slot for the popular CompactFlash(TM)(CF(TM)) memory card, manufactured by SanDisk. SanDisk's CompactFlash memory cards use the industry-standard ATA storage interface. The NEC MobilePro 700, manufactured by NEC Computer Systems Division (NEC CSD), is based on Microsoft's Windows CE V2.0 operating system, enabling the CF memory card to be "plug and play." Because of the built-in Windows CE recognition of CF, the NEC MobilePro 700 does not need any special drivers to install and use CF memory cards. Nelson Chan, SanDisk vice president of marketing, said, "The NEC design team did an excellent job incorporating the CompactFlash card into the MobilePro 700. With a CompactFlash card, MobilePro owners will have a quick and easy way to store, transport and back up data. NEC is a world leader in computing and its decision to put CompactFlash in the MobilePro is a strong endorsement of the CompactFlash storage standard." Michael DeNeff, director of marketing, Handheld PC Products, NEC CSD, said, "The data storage expandability of the CompactFlash, combined with the MobilePro 700's own internal memory expandability, enable the MobilePro 700 to meet the mobile professionals' growing demands for remote connectivity and software functionality. Because the CF is based upon industry standards, those expandability benefits are easily realized by the mobile professional." Focusing on mobile communications and connectivity, the new NEC MobilePro 700 will include e-mail, fax and web-browsing software to be executed by its 33.6 Kbps modem. Using a CF memory card as data storage, the MobilePro 700 is able to offer benefits such as downloading information from the web, providing additional storage for e-mail file attachments and archiving databases. SanDisk Corp. designs, develops and markets flash memory data storage products used in a wide variety of electronic systems. The company has optimized its flash memory storage solution, known as "system flash," to address the needs of many emerging applications in the customer electronics and industrial/communications markets. SanDisk's products include removable CompactFlash products, FlashDisk cards, embedded FlashDrives and Flash ChipSet products. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, Calif.
