Bill,

>How many contract say exclusive today? I count two... Bell Atlantic and GTE Government services.<

Yes, I believe the Bell Atlantic contract is exclusive...to DSC. That is who the contract is with, not Westell. Westell is a subcontractor to DSC.

>> We will not see mass rollout of consumer based ADSL Internet service for a long time. <<

>Late 1998 for mass rollout. Bell Atlantic is starting with the consumer based ADSL first.<

That was my definition for a long time...still a year away at best for consumer priced mass rollouts.

>Bell Atlantic wants to limit CAP on their network. If your a CLEC that wants to deploy in every region, who do you go with? Alcatel only supports an DMT/ATM based solution<

Lots of other companies have CAP based solutions. CLECs won't have to choose WSTLs just because they want to deploy in BAs region(IMHO). What I am trying to point out is that you can never count on something until it happens. I have waited a long time for good news, and I do not consider this GTE announcement with 1,000 customers to be good news. Had they said multiple COs, or some other language to indicate a greater number of people I would have been satisfied. As it stands, this is yet another large trial in one small, limited area of scope.

GTE is a well known Cisco shop. I hope that WSTL is not the appetizer to a main course of Cisco in a year.
