Physicians are a smart bunch, and often have multiple interests. If you've lived frugally and you have 25 or more years of practice under your belt, there will be little incentive (tax wise) to continue to work as hard. Much better to use the time in other pursuits/hobbies/family. It's a no brainer, really.......there is a down side to this societally (i.e, removing the most experienced and skilled members of the profession from the workforce, more or less) but that's honestly not the physicians fault or issue. It's what the tax code dictates. Eventually the pendulum will swing back, but that takes a loooooong time and by then the damage has been done.
