The people who get free care can't afford to pay for it, or for the full cost of the insurance.

The 90% of us who pay for our health services, if needed, don't need the government mandating what products we buy.

They are not forcing you to buy anything...they are merely forcing you to pay for what you already get for free...let's put it this way, if the SC repeals the individual mandate then we should not require ERs to abide by COBRA/EMTALA...is that ok with you?

I read his half of it at the time.

The reasoning is convoluted by any reasonable measure.

Health insurance is not the same thing as health care. I may need health care at some point or I may not. The argument that I am being forced to pay for something I get for free is nonsense.

Since when does the Constitution apply en masse? If I, as an individual, choose to self-insure or to go uninsured, it doesn't cost the taxpayer one cent if I happen to be healthy and I'm found dead in my bed tomorrow morning. Yet, this legislation would have me pay for insurance I don't want and don't need. Are an individual's 5th Amendment rights not violated if a group to which he belongs is wrongfully silenced (see Citizens United)?

It certainly wasn't the totality of his argument, but the idea that I should be required to buy insurance become some day I may need health care is ridiculous on its face.

For years I paid for health insurance without ever collecting ONE NICKEL of benefits.
