Hi jimisjim -

Re: Waste Management, Inc. (WM)

I noticed that my initial buy on WM was on 8/2010 at $34.21/share. the stock is getting close and perhaps with a few more down days/weeks this one will be in buy territory again. I raised lots of cash in the last 10 days but unfortunately it's in the taxable account. I still need to generate dividend income for this portfolio too.

One criteria I look at is if I pay monthly fees or use a company's product I consider it in my Buy decision. WM has very little if any accounts receivables as they can put a lien on a customer's property for payment similar to what City's do for unpaid property taxes.

I took a load to our local dump (a facility that WM operates for the City) and it cost me $50.00. They use some formula based on weight and type of material being dumped but it seemed pretty large to me. The operator said that the fee was close to their minimum and on average they collect $100 per vehicle and current rates were going to go up soon too.

WM has a program as you mentioned where they collect methane from their land fills which they process into compressed NG to power their trucks. I did read that because many of the Cities are getting efficient in their recycling that some of their waste stream revenues were not growing anymore and they were looking to other profit centers to generate income (and/or cost savings). The collection of methane from their land fills topped their list.

This is one name I need to add shares to and hopefully I will get the chance sooner than later.
