It's an old story. The study assumes that doctors retire around the age of 61 and completely stopped working without accounting for their work during 'retirement'. The GPs may have dropped out of private practice but now work for HMOs on a full- or part-time basis.

One more post: Loantech your a bloody bore---you don't have a clue what life would be without plumbers--a world of engulphed in horrific disease---more than Doctor';s could ever handle. Bigoted Bastard you are--- i am just a man in search of intelligent life on SI----dificult job to say the least. SI is the capitol of Snobs United in Stupidity.Max
BTW, i had a truly great doctor the worked two years to save my life---he later became the head of National Institute for deafness.
He had been chief of staff of ENT department at H.U.P.
He made greed doctors shameful.
He would refuse Saudii Arabian Shieks offering bags of money to have his services andthenj operate at know personal charge on a poor man for Baltimore.(i heard that actually happen)
His name was Dr. James Snow, now deceased. Through him i learned their are truly great doctors, both in skill and person, and on the otherhand their are doctors that should be arrested for gross incompetence.
Go through what i did and you LEARN do NOT go in thinking doctors are special--they maybe and and they may not be. i have seen the Best and the Worst. Max
p.s. Dr.Snow saw to it that that the doctor that had my case before me was BlackBaled in the Philadelphia area--that doctor ended up being a company ENT specialist for an Oil Firm in Saudii Arabia:)
