I wouldn't dispute that. Heck, it goes into things that aren't even particularly sweet for consistency reasons.

Which is one of the many reasons that processed foods being so cheap is a problem. Not only can it be time consuming to cook from basic materials, it is also often more expensive. Not that cooking from scratch is a priori healthier. It is just easier.
