It has always amazed me how many financial charts are NOT done on semi-log (ratio) scales. The Wall Street Journal, I believe, is guitly of this error.

Scaled in this manner movements of equal percentages show as equal amounts of vertical space. By using a ratio graph the Dow 30 for example could be very easily compared to the S&P500 assuming that the vertical scales were identical.

I hope that Mr Gilder will consider this small change, even though I do not subscribe to his newsletter.

Thanks for the recommendation, which I sent along to my chart man and which he is following up. Several of our charts have switched to log scale.
