Why not Coke in that situation last night instead of Purcey? That's the question that I have.

It would have seemed like a no-brainer. To me, Purcey is strictly a mop-up type of pitcher. Sort of a Jason Grilli type....maybe not even as good -- unfortunately, Purcey may turn into one of Dombrowski's worst trades (not as bad as trading away Jair Jurrjens for an aging Renteria though).

I wonder if Leyland considered Purcey's last 10 appearances...the numbers tell an UGLY story...

9 innings pitched

15 hits

12 walks

12 Earned runs.

Yeah, somebody I clearly don't want to pitch late in a close game game...Leyland must improve at talent evaluation and put the right players in the right situations to succeed. Just my view.

I heard that the Tigers sent 2 scouts to Tampa tonight....

James Shield could be on their radar.

Also Beltran to the Phillies is the rumor now.

The Tigers are calling up 20-year-old super-prospect Jacob Turner to start Saturday against the Angels, but by the end of the day, they hope to announce a new member of their starting rotation.

According to sources, the Tigers are closing in on a deal that would net them Mariners right-hander Doug Fister. The Tigers, concerned about their bullpen because of questions about Al Alburquerque's health, were trying to expand the deal to include a reliever, as well. It's expected that Charlie Furbush will be part of the deal, and the Tigers planned to have Turner take his roster spot for Saturday's game.

Turner, who has been pitching at Double-A Erie (and was scheduled to start for the SeaWolves Saturday night), is expected to return to the minor leagues after making his big-league debut.
